He had it all, no one can deny it. Defense, delivered in the clutch, class act etc. but if you hear some people talk, they act like he invented the game. How much of his exalted status do you think is attributed to the Nike ads, the television personality etc.
CevS, I grew up in Chicago, and am a huge Bulls fan.
I would say 25% only. He bacame what he is due to his talent and competitiveness.
Kibret: Yes Kobe is more skillful but Jordan is still a way much better than Kobe.
40%.
‘they act like he invented the game.’ exactly… i am sick of that, man. People need to open their eyes and say Kobe got better skills.
I still think MJ is the most successful player, not only in rings, but the records he has, the name he made… and the players now are somewhat his fruit.
*JEDI – I agree. Like I said Jordan was (I think) the most successful player in the NBA. But some say Kobe will never be close to Jordan… But I think if LeBron and DWade didn’t exist, Kobe would be the one who we always talk about.

I would say 10%, because if he wasn’t that good all these companies would have never approached him to begin with to endorse their products. If anything a lot of these companies became that much more famous off of him. I think there was more to gain for these companies then there was for Jordan himself.

around 25-30% but make no mistake, MJ was a superb player, he participated in every All-star activity from a 3-pt shootout to becoming the best dunker ever. As well as that, he could shoot and block like a mad man

Well the marketing a branding was a big part of it but it was also a mix of him just being the best player to ever play the game helping make his status as a basketball god.
