who agrees with me: Music has become a product that survivies on branding and marketing strategies?

January 16, 2010 Posted by admin

Modern day music has been absoultely commercialised. Every artist seems to want to sell more copies of their album and to keep their audiences engaged they come up with new looks and styles, fancy artwork, promotional activities, hard hitting lyrics with very little stress on their sound as such. For instance Eminem relies primarily on his whacko lyrics more than his sound

Sometimes you may not quite like the sound of a band but theres something about their maketing strategy that make you like them. For instance the Gorillaz, with the whole animation bit it really works- had damon albarn been a solo artist not many people would hear him.

Some struggling artists give themselves a makeover to change opinions about them- and it works for a few. Nelly furtado for example- what happened to her in the new album?

A successful artist is a brand alone worth millions.

Fickle consumer loyalties have probably led to this.

Whats your opnion about this?

Just like any product out there (whether it be a car or toilet paper) there is a certain amount of branding and marketing companies must do in order to create a successful product. We live in such a visual world that it takes more and more to grab our attention as consumers, and to appeal to our psyche.

Music is no exception to this. I think it’s very true that a lot of successful artists are successful because of successful marketing and branding ploys. However, when you think about it, a lot of these hot shot artists don’t really have a lot of staying power. I highly doubt that in 20 years from now that a hit Ashlee Simpson record from 2004 is going to be highly sought after. But John Coltrane, Dave Matthews Band, Eric Clapton, and the Beatles? They are going to continue to sell records until the end of time. (I’m just using those artists as examples. There are many many others who are just as deserving.)

Yes, you are correct in that music has been highly commercialized, especially in recent years. Record labels and content holders are doing more and more to appeal to the consumer and snag a (usually temporary) stronghold on their corner of the industry. Eventually, however, that hold will most often times be shaken loose and those artists will quickly be ushered out and will just as quickly be replaced by the "next big thing."

True talent will shine through corporate financial backing. As superficial as the industry can be, I take comfort in the fact. Good music is good music, and while clever marketing can temporarily distract our visual sensibilities, commercial glitz can never fool a person’s ear, or emotions.

What are target market, market positioning and market segmentation of an University?

January 16, 2010 Posted by admin

What are target market, market positioning and market segmentation of an University?

The ‘target market’ is the student profile or ‘type’ that the school sees as its most successful student. Try to find schools who see you as their target market.

‘Market positioning’ is the school’s way of appealing to its target market.

‘Market segmentation’ is the concept that in the marketplace, different groups can be combined to create a target market, or the target market itself can be divided into subgroups. Being adept at reading this factor determines the success of the school at positioning itself effectively so as to reach its target market.

Hope that helps.

Get Started With A Free Marketing Webinar To Have A Successful Rolling Launch

January 16, 2010 Posted by admin

I have written several articles about the four types of webinar models. This article will go into detail about the fourth and final model, which is to host a free marketing webinar as a strategy to introduce a new product. I am quite familiar with these kinds of webinars because I use them all the time whenever I am going to launch a new product.

The idea behind this strategy is that you do a free webinar and use this as a basis to sell your product. Once you have done this, you can then record the numbers that your marketing webinar generated. It is important that you note how many people were at the webinar and how many people invested in your new product along with any other vital information that you may need. After you have done this, you will be able to present the information that you gathered to joint venture partners and establish stronger ties with them.

You will be able to do this based on the fact that your product generated sales, and this can be validated by the information that you sent. It is an easy way to get money for your joint venture partners because no work will be involved on their part, and you will have the opportunity to present the information that you have to their existing lists. The numbers that you gather can then be used to facilitate the overall process of building more partner ties in the future.

The name for this is “rolling launch.” It is the same marketing webinar that is being used as a basis to establish business bonds with joint venture partners. The numbers that you generate from the previous webinar will be the deciding factor that secures these joint venture partners. It is not difficult to continue establishing business ties with different joint venture partners. One night while I was having dinner with my family, my wife asked me, “So what about the webinar that you are going to present tonight?” “Webinar?” I said, “Oh yeah, you are right; I do have one? Does anyone want more potatoes…?” What I am trying to show here is that even though I had a presentation, I was not worried. I was familiar with my presentation since I had done the same webinar more than once. And you know what? We made a lot of money from that webinar.

Thanks to this method my bank account has grown a whopping $142,400 in the last five months. Words cannot describe just how excited I am about the rolling launch strategy with marketing webinars. It is out of this world!

How a Marketing System Could Be The Difference Between a Successful Business Or a Business Failure

January 14, 2010 Posted by admin

In a perfect world every part of your company would work without a flaw. You’d sell more product, schedule more services, make more money. Sounds great doesn’t it? The truth is that in real life, nothing ever works flawlessly. If you’re not selling products, or services you’re not making money. If your service is poor and you get a bad reputation, you’re not making any money. If your product is breaking all of the time and word gets out, you’re not making any money. This sounds more like real life doesn’t it? The truth is there are so many negative things that can affect your business that it is amazing any company can make a profit in this day and age.

Does Microsoft spend hundreds of millions of dollars on TV commercials just for fun? Does Chevy spend hundreds of millions of dollars on TV commercials just to slam Ford for being not as good of a truck, even when everyone knows the F150 is the best selling truck in America? They do all of these commercials because they have found them to be profitable to advertising on TV. They do it because they have developed marketing plans that work, and they stick to them. Why develop a marketing plan for just TV commercials? Well because it works! In fact they almost certainly have a system for how their websites get updated, how they answer the phone, how particular problems with software or hardware are handled. In fact, I guarantee you that they have systematized absolutely every aspect of their companies.

It’s amazing how many businesses I speak to each week that do not have any type of internet marketing system in place. A lot of people think systematizing a business is only for large corporations, it is definitely not. Having a system in place for every aspect of your company is essential to whether a company will be successful, or wilt and die out in the future.

Not only does systematizing a business make sure that every single task of your business is handled quickly and properly, it documents those tasks so if your accountant decides to leave for new opportunities, a new accountant could be hired, handed the systems and get to work right away. All they have to do is read them, apply them, and they are good to go! How much overhead time would this save you in the long run. Think about it for a minute, training a new employee how to do every task of your business and answering countless numbers of questions that eat up your valuable time versus handing the new employee a binder or cd full of all your businesses systems that they can read and apply almost immediately. Depending on the amount of responsibility each employee gets at your company this could amount to weeks of information that just got handed down through a binder! This means none of your essential employees need to spend countless hours training and hand holding a new employee. At my company I estimated that it saves me approximately two hundred work hours, that’s five weeks of time that I was losing before I systemized my business.

So the question is, why haven’t you created a marketing plan or marketing system for your business? The experts have already done it for you! Just Google search “marketing system” or “marketing plan” and you will get hundreds of results in all types of flavors that will suit your business! The initial investment will be low too. Most good ones start around $2000 and can go as high as $25,000. You could make up the $2000 spent in a short amount of time. If you hire a someone and pay them $30.00 an hour, which would mean it would take you around sixty seven hours to earn back the money. If you normally spend weeks and weeks training them to perform at their job, you earn your money back on the very first new employee your hire! That is not even including your priceless time!

So what are you waiting for? Get your business or company a marketing system. Get your business systematized. Set up marketing plans so your company will succeed. Don’t just sit and wait for your competition to go out of business, be the more successful company and do it for them!

Book Promotion And Publicity – How To Market Your Book

January 13, 2010 Posted by admin

So, you have completed and published your first book. Congratulations! Now the next couple of steps are as important as the content. You must have a plan, so book promotion and publicity market your book. Unless you have been published by a known company, a ground roots marketing approach can achieve getting you the exposure that you need to start selling copies.

With the many online companies that will help you self-publish, once completed, the tasks of promotion and publicity fall into your hands. Depending on the topic, you will be able to find many local options to get your book and your face in front of a potential buying audience. However, be aware of many companies online that claim that they can help you. They will offer you online seminars on the proper procedures and techniques to get your book out to the public. Just be careful as if you published this piece yourself, you may have budget constraints and all of this can cost you quite a lot of money. What they will attempt to show you, in many cases, is the use of common sense. You will be exposed to marketers that are more interested in selling you stuff, more than they are interested in helping you sell your book, or at least make people aware that you wrote something of value. So, beware.

Although the most passive marketing concept is using the Internet, if you are computer savvy, you can launch a blog or a website to promote your book. Getting people to find you then becomes the difficult task and optimizing search engines to promote any particular site can get expensive. If you know someone that can help you here, you can get some outstanding exposure and you are obviously marketing to a very large audience.

The same process goes for local television. All stations are seeking a good story, especially if the person is from the local area. They are interested and usually very easy to work with and with all of the local programming, they are always looking for interesting people that have done something out of the ordinary.

How many bookstores are within 50 miles of where you live? Once you know that, contact them. Usually the best method is to make a personal visit and speak with the owner of the store. Again, assuming you have written about an interesting topic, you may get them to let you do a book signing. If you are really good, they may let you have a discussion group in the store explaining your topic and why you chose to write about it. Then you can meet with your potential customers, they can learn to like you and that generally creates some interest in buying your book. So, be prepared. You will need fliers and copies of the book. Try to set it up so you have a couple of weeks to advertise your visit. If you can tie that into a slot on a local radio or television station, you may be very surprised at how many people show up.

Every city has multiple Networking meetings. It is the newest way to expose your business to other business owners. They have developed into legitimate marketing opportunities and you may meet some people that can assist you in other marketing areas, as well. Just by meeting and discussing the reasons that you wrote your book and what you expect the readers to get out of it, will likely generate some sales and at least start a bit of a buzz, when used in conjunction with your other marketing efforts.

Please remember that these are public events. You will need to take some time to get prepared. The perception of the quality of your book will go hand in hand with your personality in promoting it. The better prepared you are to discuss the topic, the purpose, your motivation for writing it etc., the better it will be received.

Other than the Internet, this type of marketing requires you to be personable, professional and prepared. The quality of your book will be perceived by how you present it to the world. So take as much time as you need to get ready for your next and most important task, because if you do not market your book well, no one will likely buy it and your time and efforts will have been wasted. But, if you can convey the real meanings of the book and the potential impact it will have on people, personal contact will go a long way in getting the exposure that you want.

How To Create A Banner That Will Make You Stand Out

January 13, 2010 Posted by admin

Any company relies extensively on advertising for promotion of its products or services. It not only makes the brand noticeable in the market, but also has a significant influence on the psyche of the customer.

Banner printing is one powerful method of advertising and its use to attract public attention is widespread. It is a time-tested and trusted method, which any sales executive would always count on. The role of design in making a banner a hit with prospective customers should in no way be overlooked, and good printing is a crucial element in making sure that the intended design does see the light of day.

Have you ever considered giving your customer a banner with their branding on and your logo and contact details at the bottom. This elementary gift will carry your branding to all the events that your customer goes to for a very modest investment. Not only that your client will be grateful to you eternally for giving them a marketing banner that they can use that promotes them.

The process of banner printing demands a rigorous attention to detail so that it attracts the attention of the public. Any extremities in the shape or size of the banner should invariably be avoided, as it would pose difficulties at a later stage. The message on the banner should be of a standard word count and in a letter size that goes well with the layout. The use of only a handful of words (less than 10) in heavy letters is a prevalent practice.

A well-established banner printing company should be able to come up with the correct colour palette for your banner. The text colour should be clear in the background, making the message prominent and easily visible. Loaded words like ‘great’, dynamic etc may be used to further heighten the efficacyof the message, and if any pictures are being used, then they should be juxtaposed in such a way that they do not take peoples’ attention away from the main message. How To Make Sure Your Logo Design Will Create An Impact

January 12, 2010 Posted by admin

Whether it is an international company or a local business, every firm has to get a smart logo designed which would reflect its philosophy. The logo should have a powerful visual appeal for the customer and should induce instant recollection of the brand, and an expert logo designer can greatly help in this regard.

As the company’s brand image will be determined by the logo design, it is advisable to check if the logo designer is qualified and competent enough for the task. He should have prior experience of designing complicated logos and should have immense potential for creativity. He must also be able to blend your ideas into the logo and work within fixed deadlines.

A good logo must have a few key features. It must use elements like colours, photos, and fonts in good combination, resulting in an eye catching yet soothing effect. The logo must be distinctive in appearance so that it highlights the firm and differentiates it from other competing brands.

The logo design must make an attempt to reflect the main business of your company in a meaningful way, so that the consumers know at sight of it what your company stands for. Also, it must be appealing enough to survive for many years and even decades so that you don’t have to to substitute it with a new one.

It is tough to assess the efficacy of logo design. The new logo may take months to find approval and recognition among customers, so any increase in revenues of products or market share, that is, its impact will be realised only after that.

But this does not necessarily mean that you can never predict how the new logo will perform in the market. You can find out the consumers’ likely response to the new logo design by conducting market research. A popular and highly efficacious way of doing this is to use a test market.

In this concept, you can begin making use of the new logo with a limited section of the larger market, and then study and assess how people in that group are connecting with it. By aggressively marketing the new logo in the test market you can make sure that you will not have to wait for a long time for people to start recognizing it.

Then you can study and examine what apparent impact your experiment has had on the revenues of your products in the test market and on the overall opinion about your company in that specific area. If this experiment is found to have a favourable effect, you will know that your logo design process was fruitful.

Why Overhaul Your Brand Design

January 12, 2010 Posted by admin

Most people confuse brand design with just creating a logo. The truth could not have been farther from this. Brand designing is one of the important tools which a business can utilize for its benefit whenever it is interacting with its consumers or other outsiders. If you feel that your brand is failing to convey a coherent image of your company and products to the customers, you must get your brand redesigned.

A brand design not only has to be a representation of the organization’s brand identity but should also ensure that it has an impact on the communication strategy. Along with the logo, it must be apparent in the jingles that the business uses in its ads, the marketing materials, the website, and any other customer touch points.

Customers identify with a company when brand designing is effective, which in turn allows the business to make more revenue. To develop a good brand identity one needs to comprehend what the customer needs, how the company’s products or services satisfy those needs, and how those products or services are better than the competition. This is why brand design consultants are so important when it comes to redesigning a brand.

Brand design consultants are trained and experienced in this discipline. Their tasks involve assessing a brand, analyzing competitors’ moves, observing new market trends and considering corporate objectives behind the revamping of a brand. After they are done with all the analysis, they create a new brand identity on the basis of the conclusions. This step entails an assortment of activities like developing catchy ads and stylish logos; and updating packaging design, company literature, and company website.

Considering the vital part played by brand design consultants, you should always use their help when going for brand designing. The years of experience and vast knowledge of these experts can make sure that you will have a successful brand.

Search Engine Optimization: The Basics

January 12, 2010 Posted by admin

The need to increase traffic by using search engine optimization is essential to a successful website and online business.

Often shortened to SEO, search engine optimization means using keywords within your site so that they boost your site ranking in the search engines.

This is not a comprehensive list of things to ensure you do for your site. However, the following points should be a part of your toolkit in ensuring that your website content will increase traffic by using search engine optimization to bring you maximum profits.

1. Your chosen keyword should be placed in the top section of your site, as well as distributed evenly throughout the body of your site or other published material.

2. Make sure you choose your keyword after doing some research. What is your visitor looking for? If you were looking for what you are offering, what would you type into the search engines?

3. Within your website settings, you will find a box to insert metatags. By inputting your keywords here, they will make a big difference to your traffic by increasing the search engine optimization.

4. Your page is sure to rank higher and sooner if you actually submit it to the search engines. This is simple enough to do. Just do a search on Google for a suitable service. Make sure you do this as soon as possible after publishing your website for best results.

5. Spy on the competition. Using your chosen keyword, do a Google search and see what sites are appearing at the top of the natural results. These are the ones on the left hand side of a Google search results page. One of the reasons that they hold the top positions will be down to good search engine optimization. Visit them and see where and how they are using that keyword on their site.

6. Writing articles and submitting them will also help a lot with SEO. Each article that you submit will have your backlinks within your resource section. The more backlinks you have pointing to your website, the better.

To increase your traffic and website ranking, these points will help to increase the SEO of your website.

How Implementing a Marketing System Into Your Business Plans Will Create Success

January 11, 2010 Posted by admin

In a perfect world every part of your company would work faultlessly. You’d sell more product, schedule more services, make more money. Sounds fantastic doesn’t it? The truth is that in real life, nothing ever works perfectly. If you aren’t selling products, or services you aren’t making any money. If your service is poor and you get a bad reputation, you’re not making money. If your product is breaking all of the time and word gets out, you’re not making money. This sounds more like your real life doesn’t it? The truth is there are so many negative things that can affect your business that it’s amazing any company can make a profit in this day and age.

All the new employees you hire will need to do is read the systems, apply the systems, and if they can follow directions well they will be ready to go! How much overhead time would this save your business in the long run. Think about it for a few minutes, training a new employee how to do every task of your business and answering countless numbers of questions that eat up your precious time versus handing the new employee a binder or cd full of all your businesses systems that they can read and apply almost immediately. Depending on the amount of responsibility each employee gets at your company this could amount to weeks of information that just got handed down through a binder containing all of the needed info! This means that none of your imperative employees need to spend countless hours training and hand holding a new employee. At my company I projected that it saves me roughly 200 employee hours, that is five weeks of time that I was losing before I systemized my business.

Gift A Corporate Banner To Your Client Today

January 11, 2010 Posted by admin

Advertising is a vital factor, which influences the sales of a organization’s offerings. It not only creates brand awareness but also brings out a favourable response from the customers.

Banner printing is one such advertising tool that is extensively used to draw the interest of the public. It is a time-tested and trusted medium, which any sales executive would always count on. Design plays a decisive role in the mass appeal of a banner, and proper implementation of good design is possible only with excellent printing.

Have you ever thought about giving your customer a banner with their logo and marketing message on and your logo and contact details at the bottom. This elementary gift will carry your logo to all the locations that your customer goes to for a very small investment. Not only that your customer will thank you forever for gifting them a marketing banner that they can use that promotes them.

Banner printing requires careful and meticulous work so that an attractive banner can be created. It is important that the shape and size of the banner are just perfect. The font size of the message has to be carefully chosen and an optimum number of words should be used on the banner. A preferred technique is using less than ten words, written in thick and big font size.

A well-established banner printing company should be able to come up with the correct colour combination for your banner. The background should not overshadow the colour of the text, as that might make the message pale and illegible. Heavy, yet simple words, like ‘great’ may be used to heighten the force of the message. Moreover, the images used in the banner should not draw viewers’ attention at the expense of the message, as it might mean that the whole purpose of the banner would be lost. They should complement the whole look and feel of the banner.

Banner printing done with due attention to the above key points will help you develop a targeted and effective banner for a successful advertising campaign. It is a solid marketing strategy that can help you get more sales, more sales leads, and more sales referrals for your business.

Brand Design -Why Get A Brand Revamped

January 11, 2010 Posted by admin

A logo is a key element of brand design and people often mistake the two as same. But, this is not correct. Brand designing has a role to play in almost all the communication points that an organization has with its customers or suppliers, and it is crucial in determining the fate of a company. Redesigning a brand is only needed when your current brand image is not serving the objective of creating a favorable impression on customers.

A good brand design is one that covers all facets of the brand identity and transforms the way an organization projects itself to external parties. Along with the logo, it must be apparent in the jingles that the company uses in its advertisements, the marketing materials, the website, and any other customer communication points.

Effective brand designing helps elicit a positive response from the customers. To create a good brand identity one needs to comprehend what the consumer needs, how the business’ products or services satisfy those needs, and how those offerings are better than the competition. This is why it becomes critical to engage brand design consultants when you decide to redesign your brand.

Brand design consultants are experts in this area. Their tasks involve assessing a brand, assessing competitors’ moves, watching emerging market trends and considering corporate objectives behind the revamping of a brand. Thereafter, they focus on developing a new brand identity for the company, which is their key responsibility. The task of creating a new brand design involves development of new logos and ads, as well as modifying packaging and websites etc. to give them a new look.

In a nutshell, it is not recommended to go for brand designing without taking the help of brand design consultants. Their creative excellence and technical expertise are vital to developing a powerful and successful brand.

1)What is the main purpose of using the break-even analysis for marketing?2)What financial ratios wil provide?

January 8, 2010 Posted by admin

Can some one please give me the best suitable answer to these(2) questions.
1)identify the two main purpose of the using the break-even analysis for marketing?
2)when evaluating a company’s long term financial stability ,what financial ratios will provide the necessary insight to draw a conclusion?

The two main purposes of using the break-even analysis for marketing is to (1) determine the minimum number of sales that is required to avoid a loss at a designated sales price and (2) it is an exercise tool so that you can tweak the sales price to determine the minimum volume of sales you can reasonably expect to sell in order to avoid a loss.

In evaluating a company’s long term financial stability, I would want to be sure it can survive in the short term so it should have a current ratio (current assets/current liabilities) greater than one. Also, I would check its debt/equity ratio to see that it is adequately capitalized.

Business strategies for cars to survive in a recession!!?

January 8, 2010 Posted by admin

I’m doing a business studies presentation which is in for tomorrow. Basically what I need to do is choose a car and come up with a market strategies which will help it cope better in a recession. I was thinking of doing a fiat 500 but I’m not entirely sure at the moment. So if you have any ideas for market stategies which will help a car survive better in the recession they would be greatly appreciated.

You’ve got to assume your customers are going to be value-seeking to the maximum during a recession, so I would start with something that has a proven repair record, good fuel economy and something that retains its value. Usually the three will go hand in hand.

Another thing to keep in mind is that you will likely see an increase in the number of young buyers in relation to your overall buying population. Young buyers typically have not built up large retirement savings and are more "spur of the moment" buyers than middle aged folks, thus making them less susceptible to cutting back. The double-edged sword with young buyers is that the vehicle has to be somewhat stylish and cheap.

Based on the record-breaking sales of the Fiat 500 during our current recession, I would agree that it is quite a good choice.

Advertising and promotional portion of marketing plan?

January 8, 2010 Posted by admin

I am working on a project where I design the advertising and promotional portion of a marketing plan. The plan is for a private/semi-public swimming and sports club.

The idea is to market the company as an alternative to family vacations or a healthy alternative to summer recreation and exercise.

What would be a good marketing strategy for a geographical area the size of a county? We decided local newspapers, myspace, and facebook as an idea to cater to a portion of the market. But with a budget of 3500 dollars we still can’t find a good strategy.

Any input, I would be grateful.

Thank You!

Promotional products have been proven to be one of the most effective ways to promote your service, product or company. Even in tough times companies should use freebies or incentives as a way to brand in the marketplace. Besides the customary water bottle for a fitness facility there are so many other appropriate items that would have great branding space to put out your message. For proof of the efficacy of Promotional products I suggest you check out www.asicentral.com for the latest studies surveys on the best advertising medium and the best place to spend your dollars.

What is the difference between a marketing campaign and a promotion?

January 8, 2010 Posted by admin

My belief is that promotion is more broad than a marketing campaign (think the four p’s). A marketing campaign is found within promotion. I was also assuming a campaign is a strategy of speaking to a particular segment within your target. Is this the case? What if, for example, you have marketing activities you are doing specifically for Christmas. Could this be the Christmas promotion within a wider campaign?

Marketing campaign involves advertising, hiring a staff of salesmen and women to go out and solicit business, and finding retailers who will carry your product on their shelves. Promotion is temporarily reducing the cost of your retail product (discount sale) to steal your competitors’ customers, by trying to convince consumers to switch services or name brands. People are creatures of habit; they’ll routinely buy the same brand of products or services, until a better value comes along to entice them to switch.

How much of Michael Jordan’s status as "basketball god" is due to marketing and branding?

January 8, 2010 Posted by admin

He had it all, no one can deny it. Defense, delivered in the clutch, class act etc. but if you hear some people talk, they act like he invented the game. How much of his exalted status do you think is attributed to the Nike ads, the television personality etc.
CevS, I grew up in Chicago, and am a huge Bulls fan.

I would say 25% only. He bacame what he is due to his talent and competitiveness.

Kibret: Yes Kobe is more skillful but Jordan is still a way much better than Kobe.

What elements should be analyzed for a good strategic marketing plan?

January 8, 2010 Posted by admin

Your question is very broad, but I’ll do my best.
First, who are the clientele you are trying to target?
Second, of those clientele, who will actually use your services?
Third, what is your slogan? Is your logo memorable or eye catching?
Fourth, what is your competitive advantage (you don’t need to be better than the competition, but what stands you out)?
Fifth, how are you going to reach the clientele you fit (who you want and who you fit don’t always match, until you change your product or how you present your product)?

What’s difference between positioning and repositioning in terms of marketing?

January 8, 2010 Posted by admin

Before positioning companies has to do segmentation and targeting.
Segmentation is dividing the market into segments upon some set of criteria and evaluating the profitability of each segment
Targeting is selecting one or more segments and going after them

Positioning is how do you want your brand to be considered by consumers when compared to other competing brands. Positioning is based on product features such as color, price, fluffiness, quality of service, innovative approach, etc.

Re-positioning is when you want your brand to be considered/associated with different features. For example, KIA cars has repositioned themselves from being some brand into being a cool brand .. Cadillac has repositioned themselves from being classical car for the rich and old into more affordable elegant car … Oldsmobile has tried to reposition themselves as "not your father’s car" but it was unsuccessful repositioning.

Re-positioning is quite lot more difficult and expensive compared to initial positioning.
You know the saying ‘only one chance to make first impression’ also applies to the world of branding.

Best Regards.

How can I create sound target market analysis for buzz marketing? I do not know where to start.?

January 4, 2010 Posted by admin

To market anything is not inexpensive. How much money, time and effort can you afford? Media is expensive. You must know HOW to market.. demographics of all kinds etc etc. Do you know the meaning of Buzz marketing?

What are the downsides (dsadvantages) of investing in new technology, is it a good business strategy?

January 4, 2010 Posted by admin

Picture this scenario: As a future stategy for an airline company, they decide to invest in technology, say the installation of Tv units (or anything thing u can think about) in the back of every seats, or a joint venture with a more famous airline say Singapore airlines, where both airlines could work with each other and develop new technologies, new machinery, better service? Would those new strategy make sense in the external competitive environment? (i.e. what customers require, what competitors are doing, trends in the business environment)

I think so because I have spoken with many people who only fly on JetBlue airplanes for the exact reasons that you speak of; multimedia systems that keep them entertained over the course of long, boring flights. Sure, it costs an airline money to do this but when you consider the fact that some passengers will fly with your airline exclusively for the reason that you offer such systems, then it becomes a good investment. You really wouldn’t be developing this technology with an airline, such as Singapore, because there are many different components manufacturers and suppliers that can already provide your airline with such technology. In other words, there are other companies that you can buy this stuff from, off the shelf, for each of your passenger seats. None of that is new technology, and these are standard options from both Boeing, Airbus, various aircraft interior refurbishers, corporate aircraft manufacturers, etc.

How do you get clients for a brand marketing company?

January 4, 2010 Posted by admin

I would like to know how to bring in clients. Should I send out mailers, go introduce myself and my company, call, etc? I would like to know the best method for bringing in clients. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Depending on your marketing budget. I would write a personalize letter with an offer and send to 100 prospects.

Write another letter with a different offer and send to another 100 prospects.

Then I would track the response and see which is doing better. And keep repeating this step until I can get more clients at less marketing cost possible.

What role does the mission statement play in marketing planning?

January 4, 2010 Posted by admin

In practice, a strong mission statement can help in three main ways:

• It provides an outline of how the marketing plan should seek to fulfil the mission
• It provides a means of evaluating and screening the marketing plan; are marketing decisions consistent with the mission?
• It provides an incentive to implement the marketing plan

Where can I find some reference on Starbucks business strategies?

January 4, 2010 Posted by admin

Mainly, marketing strategies.

There are several books written about the Starbucks success. A good starting point would be these two bestsellers:

Pour Your Heart into It : How Starbucks Built a Company One Cup at a Time by Joseph Michelli
The Starbucks Experience : 5 Principles for Turning Ordinary into Extraordinary by Gill and Baker

They are available at all major bookstores.

what sort of promotional marketing techniques would you use for a jazz club opening?

January 4, 2010 Posted by admin

I have to come up with an 8 week promotional campaign leading up to a Jazz and Blues club opening. What would you suggest??

Wow this will be challenging.
To start with press releases, calendars, posters and flyers.

I would see if you could get some of the bands who you will have playing at the club to assist you in promoting the opening. The incentive for them would be you assisting them sell their CD’s at the opening.

Put together a press package for radio stations that features the artist that you will be showcasing. http://www.musicbizacademy.com/knab/articles/getairplay.htm

Maybe you could get them booked on radio to play samples and/or do a CD give away and promote your opening.

Maybe the bands could give you tapes you could get played in local shops near where the venue is and see if those shops would let you put up a poster saying that "the music you are listening to is so and so who will be playing at the opening of the new club…" Offer the owners of the shops free tickets or meals to do this for you. Barter. Make friends with complimentary businesses.

Have a Creative name with a catch slogan on the flyer.
Offer free CD for first # of people. Make a deal with the artist to get these.

Ask the bands for the email list of fans or provide them with your info to get the word out to their fans. (after you get going start an email sign up list for customers for up coming events.)

Make up T-shirts with the clubs information on it and give them away for free. They’ve got to have an interesting slogan on them though.

Set up a my space page for the club where (with artists permission) music can be featured. Along with the club calendar

Advertise in the right papers for the area.

I don’t know where you live, but in my area there are local stations that could feature this on local programs. Even the news.

If the club is in the right spot maybe in the evenings a spotlight in the sky drawing people there to find it’s not open yet but will be … and what they will find when you do open. Could maybe have a single artist playing on the parking lot or sidewalk just warming up for the opening.

A bill board might be a good plan. Let people know where you are, and feature a calendar.

I don’t know if you’re wanting to just promote this club, doing a paper/project, or have a vested interest in it. But while doing research for someone else on here I ran across this. http://lib.bioinfo.pl/pmid:15446627
It basically says that the louder the music the more alcohol consumed. I’m thinking you may want to price the alcohol higher as they will consume less than at some other types of (louder) clubs. Or you may want to focus on food as an additional income. Healthy appetizers for the after work crowd and distribute flyers focusing on that at local businesses. ‘After work wind down. We’ll mix, you mingle.’ cheesy.. will have to think on it. Just a thought but that crowd might want wifi too.

Now your menu for appetizers is off topic, but a start…
Menu item – Bluesy Corn Tortilla Chips with Queso (extra salt and spicy and that could sell a few drinks!) And it would a be a good give away at opening if you need one.

It’s not organized, but I hope it helps. Good Luck!

What is the best small inexpensive marketing promotion you have seen?

January 4, 2010 Posted by admin

You know like pens with a company logo or name, or posties, or coffee cups, Etc. I have all these things but am looking for something inexpensive that’s unique, clever, and really pops out. I like the m&m’s idea with a corporate logo on em. Anyhow you get my idea, do you have any ideas?

What type of product or service are you marketing? The best marketing tool with a budget or no budget is having a quality product or service that inspires people to talk about who you are and whats unique about your product or service ( viral marketing).

Always quantify your marketing dollars whats the return on the marketing dollars that we have spent. In short for every dollar you spend what return are we getting, are we gaining new customers with our company logo on pens and coffeee mugs. If not are the coffe mugs boosting awareness for our brand or service, and is that awareness being converted into customers?

The rule of thumb in martking is for every 10 people you reach 1 turns into a customer. Whats the marketing budget?

Your question is hard to answer without knowing your product or service you can email me at arronbright31@yahoo.com

Branding Candidates via Marketing. Are Americans this shallow and careless?

January 4, 2010 Posted by admin

I noticed, as a marketing major, that Americans are very easily swayed by brand names. Unfortunately, I think we have been picking our Presidents the same way that we pick our shoes and clothes.

Does anyone notice how Hillary and Obama are being placed(one of the 4 P’s of marketing) like high end products, and Kucinich and Paul(whom most Americans would likely be more comfortable with and safe) are being branded like Wally Wear? I guess this is what they call psychopolitics. Kinda like that Psychology of Consumerism class I recently took that taught me how to sell ice to an Eskimo.

Absolutely.. and the unfortunate part is that America is buying it. I’m sorry but I’ve done extensive research on all Giuliani, Clinton and Obama, I cannot vote for them. It is apparent with all their corporate sponsors, and ever changing stances that they do not have the best interests of the average American at heart.

I am backing Ron Paul..

How to make a strategic Marketing Plan to sell Basmati Rice in Gulf countries?

January 4, 2010 Posted by admin

Indian and Pakistan basmati rice has big demand in Gulf countries. There are many brands available, yet required to know the total potential of basmati rice in the GC.C countries? If you can get the potential of each country (U.A.E, Oman, Saudi, Qatar, Baharain & Kuwait) and the major market share for major brands, would be essentail to know. What promotions , when (period) and what would be the budget for the promotion to promote your owen brand of Basmati rice ?

Undertake or commission market research to discover the retail rice prices, key market players and niche (if any). Basmati rice from Pakistan is often much better quality than Indian, who often repack and sell it as Indian basmati. Also have business contacts in the Middle East, Pakistan and India.
